20 Questions in Brussels, Belgium with Dani Oshi

*An interview series with a play on “20 questions,” where I try to mix it up with different questions. Some serious, some not so much. I’ll also be focusing the series on some of the best street photographers from the cities I visit around the world during my 100 Cities project.

Last year, I met photographer Dani Oshi in Brussels during the Brussels Street Photography Festival, which he’s a co-founder of. We quickly became friends and the whole BSPF event ended up being a highlight of the year. Dani’s a great guy with tons of passion and energy, especially when it comes to photography. In addition to the festival, which is coming up again this year in October, he also founded WorldSP.co, a photography community that promotes contemporary original artists on tumblr from all over the world. When it comes to photography, his work crosses commercial and personal, including street photography.

Much of Dani’s street photography work shows an up-close approach with strong attention to details and the use of flash to enhance those details. There’s a tension brought to the scene through his vision in what he chooses to capture and how he captures it. In addition to close-up flash and interesting details, expression and color also play an important role in much of his work. It’s personal and provides a unique perception of reality and life in the street.

33 Street Photography Photos from One Week in Barcelona, Spain

After Lisbon, came City #38 Barcelona, Spain during my 100 Cities Project. Not being my first time in Barcelona, I was already familiar with the Mediterranean’s largest city. Barcelona had actually been my first city visited outside of North America almost 10 years ago. So I got to see how much it had changed, while also putting all of my focus on photography for this visit. Barcelona is a top tourist destination in Europe, which is definitely felt while exploring the city, especially around streets like La Rambla. There’s a lot of reason for its attraction, though, and Barceloneta beach is one of my favorite big city beaches around for photography.

7 First Impressions of Barcelona, Spain
(From a Street Photography Perspective)

After spending a week in Lisbon, Portugal, I flew across Spain to capture Barcelona for City #38 during my 100 Cities project.

I’d been to Barcelona many years ago, as it was actually the first city I ever visited outside of North America. While I had distant, but good memories of the city, most of it was from the night. One, because I was extremely unlucky with rain pouring the whole trip and two, I was young and focused more on having fun. In Barcelona, that means coming home at 7am and sleeping through the day. But now, many years later, I was ready to focus on photography and make sure to experience all I could of Barcelona with my camera during the day.

Barcelona is one of the most popular destinations in Europe. People come for the beach, gothic and Gaudi architecture, rich culture, and vibrant life of the largest metropolis on the Mediterranean Sea. With so much to attract visitors, Barcelona has changed over the years with all the tourism. For some, it’s not the city it used to be, but for most, it still has plenty deserving of being a top visited city in Europe. And that includes for street photography.

So here are my first impressions of Barcelona, from my personal Street Photographer perspective…

33 Street Photography Photos from One Week in Lisbon, Portugal

After London and a quick flight, came city #37 Lisbon, Portugal on my 100 Cities Project. Mainland Europe’s western most capital packs a lot of charm and atmosphere into a compact city great for walking with your camera. All those hills do provide a work out, but they also provide streets full of character and amazing views around every bend. The cobblestone streets, tile covered homes, old world beauty, sea, sun and more make Lisbon great, but the easy going warm vibes make it even better.

So here’s 33 photos that I was able to capture during my time in Lisbon…

7 First Impressions of Lisbon, Portugal
(From a Street Photography Perspective)

I’ve never met anyone that didn’t enjoy Lisbon, but being secluded where it is as mainland Europe’s westernmost capital keeps it from being visited as often as it should. While that’s probably a good thing, it was time for me to add it to the 100 Cities project. So I took a flight from London to Lisbon to experience all I’d heard about.

Lisbon is full of charm. The hills with their steep, winding cobblestone streets. The views of the city around every bend. The tiled, slightly deteriorating homes. Even in how it’s slightly run down brings a charm. Compared to much of Europe, Lisbon is still able to keep a “lost in time” feeling. It’s scenic, authentic and has soul. When most of Europe’s summer season takes a sharp turn for the worse, Lisbon stays sunny and warm. But the temperature isn’t the only thing that feels warm here. Walking around the city with your camera is an enjoyable experience that makes you never want to leave. Even with all those hills.

So here are my first impressions of Lisbon, from my personal Street Photographer perspective…

Postcard Prints (Limited Edition One-of-a-Kind Design)

Since I’m always on the road traveling and making photos during my 100 City Project, it only made sense to create some Postcard Prints from my images. So I did just that!

These postcards were designed by myself with a detailed back showcasing my original travel and street postcard theme and a glossy front showcasing a selection of my more popular images (inside a classy white border). These aren’t your normal postcards, either. I made sure to have them professionally printed with the highest quality out there, in thick stock and a larger 5×7 size. They honestly came out even better than I hoped for so it’s time to start mailing them out. There are 12 images to choose from and each was made in a one time run of only 10. Never to be produced again.

For fun, you can choose to have it mailed with the full postcard treatment too. That means post office stamped and travel tested from wherever I am in the world. Of course, if you want it to arrive in pristine condition, I’ll mail it protected inside an envelope. Your choice!

Each printed in a Limited Edition of 10. Will never be reproduced.
Postcard backs designed by myself. Photo Print fronts captured by myself (white border added).
Individually Numbered and Signed, including the location the photo was both taken and mailed from.
You choose if you want it mailed with the full postcard treatment (stamped and travel tested) or in an envelope for protection.
Full post card treatment includes a personalized note from me just like a postcard should (can request w/ packaged order too).

33 Street Photography Photos from Two Weeks in London, England

After Paris and a quick flight, came City #36 London, England on my 100 Cities Project. Following Paris with London provided the two most visited cities in the world back to back. And maybe the most photographed too, especially for street photography. Fortunately, London is so packed with a variety of neighborhoods full of their own character and a blend of antiquity and urban vibrance, there are still endless places to shoot. From the West End to the East End, London provides one of my favorite cities to visit for photography.

So here’s 33 photos that I was able to capture during my time in London…
