Limited Print Sale!

Hey everyone, I have an exciting announcement for the new year. Starting today, I have a limited run of prints for sale for a limited time.

I’m back home getting things ready for another year of travel working on my 100 major cities project so I have time to release a short run of prints.

This is a limited run of 11″x14″ prints, with most being only 1 of 1. They’ll never be available again in this size and print, or at this price ($60). They all come signed and numbered on the back. Sale will only be going for a week before I get back on the road for the year, continuing my project. Get them while you can and thanks for looking!

50 Street Photography Photos From 2017

Time for the New Year’s tradition here and share some photos from the old year to bring in the new.

While 2016 had been my busiest year yet on the road working on my 100 cities project, 2017 was even busier. I was on the road non-stop, clocking in at over 5,000 miles walked while covering 33 cities, including 26 major cities for the project. I started in city #41 Quito, Ecuador and finished in #66 Mexico City, Mexico, leaving 34 major cities left to do. I’m attempting to make 2018 even busier so I can get most of it finished before I start working on the book in 2019. 

While focusing on the project, I was still able to make it to a few street photography festivals this year, including the London SP Festival as a judge and the Miami SP Festival as a guest artist speaker, which were great experiences. In addition, I led some successful workshops in London, Budapest and Havana, and plan on doing more in 2018. All in all, it was an extremely busy year with its share of downs and setbacks, but it’s only made me more determined to make this all work. The blog had a busy year growing too, as it’s now ranked #2 in the world in the street photography genre on feedspot. I have more plans for the blog this year, which I’ll share soon, but for now, thank you to everyone that’s been following along!

One thing I did decide this year was not to share all of my favorite photos yet, as I want the future book to be at least a third never seen work. Still, with such a busy year of street photography, walking an average of 15 miles/22km per day year-round, I have more than enough to share now too. So, here’s 50 photos from the year that take you through all 33 cities I photographed in 2017. It’s not a top 50 of my favorites, but some selections to share for now in bringing on 2018. So, I hope you enjoy.

33 Street Photography Photos from One Week in Bogota, Colombia

After Quito, Ecuador came city #42 Bogota, Colombia on the 100 City project. Bogota is the capital and largest city in Colombia, but not the sunny destination most visitors come to Colombia for. Up in the Andes Mountains you get a cooler climate and an urban metropolis with lots of edge. While not the safest city to explore on foot with your camera, Bogota has plenty of interest to discover if you’re bold. From its history to its vibrant culture to its edge, it makes for a big city with plenty to experience.

33 Street Photography Photos from One Week in Quito, Ecuador

This year started in Quito, Ecuador for the 100 City project. Quito is home to not only the oldest Unesco Heritage old town, but also the best-preserved historic center in Latin America. While this center provides the most interest and became one of my favorite old towns to walk, the rest of Quito provides a very different atmosphere to explore too. The mix of history, mountain culture and urban city gives a unique mix that makes Quito a great city for some street photography.

33 Street Photography Photos from One Week in Brussels, Belgium

During my 100 City Project, I was brought to Brussels, Belgium for the Brussels Street Photography Festival so I decided to stay an extra week and add it to the photo project. It ended up being a city very different than first meets the eye in the charming, but touristy Grand Place center. For my personal taste, this was a good thing. Brussels has a unique mix of influences, including some edge. There’s historic charm, EU politics, hipster trendiness, multiculturalism, an edginess I enjoy, and its own special surreality all blended into one city.

33 Street Photography Photos from 5 Days in Jerusalem, Israel

For my 100 City Project, I didn’t get quite as long in Jerusalem as normal, only 5 days instead of a full week, but I explored it inside and out as much as I could. While I enjoyed photographing the crowded quarters inside the famous Old City’s walls, the rest of Jerusalem, especially Mea Shearim, was just as enjoyable for me. Jerusalem is one unique city with a very interesting religious atmosphere. After spending a week in Tel Aviv, only a short drive away, it felt worlds apart.

Havana Colors : A Short Series from Cuba

While working on my 100 City Project in City #43: Havana, Cuba,  I decided to also make a small side series inspired by the variety of colors this city surrounds you with. There’s so much to love about shooting in Havana, and for me, color is definitely one of them. While much of my work focuses more on people and life, while using color to complete it, I wanted this series to put more of the focus on the colors, while using life to complete it. 

So here’s my short series, Havana Colors. Hope you enjoy and stay tuned for more work and posts on Cuba’s capital, a favorite of mine for street photography (Details on an upcoming November Workshop in Havana).

33 Street Photography Photos from One Week in Odessa, Ukraine

After Barcelona, came City #39 Odessa, Ukraine during my 100 Cities Project. Ukraine had already become one of my favorite countries for photography, but Odessa might have become my favorite city in the country for photography. It has all I love about the authentic character and unique atmosphere of Ukraine, but with an interesting mix of beach life added in. After a busy few months of Europe’s larger cities, it also provided a relaxing and very walkable city for street photography, with plenty of interest packed into that smaller, walkable size.

33 Street Photography Photos from One Week in Barcelona, Spain

After Lisbon, came City #38 Barcelona, Spain during my 100 Cities Project. Not being my first time in Barcelona, I was already familiar with the Mediterranean’s largest city. Barcelona had actually been my first city visited outside of North America almost 10 years ago. So I got to see how much it had changed, while also putting all of my focus on photography for this visit. Barcelona is a top tourist destination in Europe, which is definitely felt while exploring the city, especially around streets like La Rambla. There’s a lot of reason for its attraction, though, and Barceloneta beach is one of my favorite big city beaches around for photography.

33 Street Photography Photos from One Week in Lisbon, Portugal

After London and a quick flight, came city #37 Lisbon, Portugal on my 100 Cities Project. Mainland Europe’s western most capital packs a lot of charm and atmosphere into a compact city great for walking with your camera. All those hills do provide a work out, but they also provide streets full of character and amazing views around every bend. The cobblestone streets, tile covered homes, old world beauty, sea, sun and more make Lisbon great, but the easy going warm vibes make it even better.
