I’m currently covering the world photographing over 100 major cities for my “Big City, Small World” project and following photobooks (for more info click here). On this page, I will add each city I cover, in order. I’ll include where I’m currently at and any upcoming cities too so you can always check back to see where I’m at, where I’ve been, and what cities are next.
As always, I will also be creating content for this blog, including my City Street Photography Guides, from each city I cover on my project work. Just click the city name to find any posts already created for that city. So, stay tuned for all that and feel free to add any city recommendations in the comment section below! (And if I’m coming to your city, feel free to message me here)

Varanasi will definitely be on the list. I’ve been once before and it was one of my favorite places for photography that I’ve experienced. Thanks for the recommendation, Nishant!

I see Moscow on your list, curious to see your view of the city!
f.d. walker says
Yes! Right after Saint-Petersburg at the end of June. I’ve been once before for a few days, but only to visit friends so I didn’t get much photography in. I’m looking forward to it. Thanks for the comment, Birka!

Your blog has become my favorite. It´s so good. This year I went to Cuba, Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Munich just doing street photography, so It´s like I´m reliving my journeys through your work and also discovering new places to go.When I see your pics I feel excited and pumped to travel the world and shoot shoot shoot. Your work is stunning. If you ever come to São Paulo (Brazil) and want some tips, just let me know. Keep up the good work.
f.d. walker says
Thanks so much, Diogo, happy to hear that and appreciate it! I went to Cuba years ago and am really hoping to return at the end of the year, it’s a special place. As for your city, I definitely plan on visiting Sao Paulo during my 100 cities project, probably sometime next year when I focus around South America. Thanks again, cheers!

Hello Walker san, Like Diogo above I’m from São Paulo too, but since 2010 I’m living ( and photographing) in Osaka, Japan. If you have chance pay a visit to São Paulo;)) Rio and Salvador (former Brazilian capitals) are amazing places, but a bit “unsafe” places to walk around with cameras (and iPhones)…Take care and enjoy Brazilian hospitality! One more thing: I went o Havana in 2008 (6 days) and the city’s atmosphere is (at some points) very similar to Salvador;)) If you are planning visit Kansai area (Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto or Nara), tell in advance and it will be nice help and guide you here. Best regards,
f.d. walker says
Hello and thanks so much for your nice comment! Yes, I know to be more careful in Brazil, but it’s such an amazing country, I have to include it :) I hope to go in February and those 3 cities are at the top of my list (I should have time to choose two). Salvador having a similar atmosphere sounds great to me, though. I also hope to make it to Japan later this year so thanks for the invitation to help, I’ll tell you when I do. Thanks again and best regards to you too!

Before I saw the list I wanted to recommend Sarajevo, definitely a must. Been there 2 times in 2016. Flying there with Croatia Airways is super cheap (however there’s a 9 hour legendary train from Zagreb, which I’m planning to try).
f.d. walker says
Thanks for the info and recommendation, Jacint! Sarajevo has been on my mind in the past so I’m hoping to fit it in while in the area this year.

If you ever do Africa, come to Joburg
f.d. walker says
Thanks, Max. Joburg and Cape Town will definitely be included. I’ve been wanting to visit South Africa for a long time.

Have you ever thought of going to Tehran or Esfahan in Iran? The country is just about opening up and travellers all seem to find it so fascinating and beautiful. Would be interesting to see you cover it.
f.d. walker says
I would love to go to Iran, I’ve heard the same from travelers. Although, it’s not so easy to shoot street photography there. I really wanted to go while living in Istanbul and have a friend in Esfahan, but it’s just not possible as a U.S. citizen right now. Hopefully, that will change. Cheers!

What about Sofia in Bulgaria ? I am surprised that the city is not on the list.
f.d. walker says
Thanks for the recommendation, Philippe. With so many other major cities in the world, while trying to spread them out across all major regions, Sofia didn’t get included, unfortunately. But a lot of other cities in the region did.

What about Xi’an in China?I am surprised that the city is not on the list.
f.d. walker says
Well, China has a number of large cities, but I did cover 4 cities in China (all bigger than X’ian), making it one of the 3 most covered countries. Even covering over 100 major cities, there’s just a lot of major cities in the world and since my focus was to spread it around to also cover the most countries and regions in the world, not just one country, Xi’an didn’t make the cut.
