My final photography impressions and thoughts covering Minsk, Belarus. A photo walk series that focuses on the photos. And learns through them.
This episode in Yerevan, Armenia, I cover a photo walk in Shengavit, the city’s second largest district, and my personal favorite for Street Photography. With a variety of unique local character, I cover my two favorite neighborhoods in Shengavit for a connected photo walk that takes you through local neighborhoods, Soviet era apartment complexes and courtyards, squares, parks, markets, metro stations, main streets and more. For authentic local character, this would be my favorite walk in Yerevan. I share insights from the photos taken and explore ways to critique and learn from your photos, while giving you a personal look at the city and walk.
All the best,
Forrest
A new photography series that gets inside the contact sheet to learn through them.
In this first installment, I first explain the old benefits of learning through contact sheets and seeing how you work the scene. Then, I cover a crowded and chaotic scene from Sao Paulo’s Carnival block parties, sharing different insights from its contact sheet and the information behind it.
All the best,
Forrest
Before photographing a new city, I like to search for any quality photography and/or photographers I can find from each place for some inspiration and research. In this series, I share a selection of found work and photographers from Armenia before covering Yerevan.
All the best,
Forrest
I share different tips and advice on how to deal with photographer’s block and cold streaks.
Similar to writer’s block, when you can’t find motivation or inspiration as a photographer and the photos and ideas just aren’t coming, there are ways to battle this and get through it, back to making photos. Other times, you may have the motivation, but you just feel like none of the photos you’re taking are working anymore and interest out there is increasingly eluding you, especially as a street photographer. There are ways to end those cold streaks too. Watch for different tips I’ve found to tackle these frustrating periods as a photographer.
All the best,
Forrest
A photo walk series that focuses on the photos. And learns through them.
This episode in Yerevan, Armenia, I cover a photo walk I’m calling the GUM Walk, as it starts just outside of the center at the city’s GUM, the main department store of the Soviet era. My favorite market area in the city, the walk covers a variety of unique interest, also hitting Luna Park, an old amusement park, Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral, and more. I share insights from the photos taken and explore ways to critique and learn from your photos, while giving you a personal look at the city and walk.
All the best,
Forrest
