On my recent trip to India, Chennai was my first stop. Coming straight from Sri Lanka, I’d been shooting around beaches a lot lately, but Chennai took it to another level. I really enjoyed shooting within the city too, but Chennai’s massive urban beaches were something special with the unique atmosphere and scenes they provided. Each day of shooting, I made sure to finish off at Marina Beach. So here’s some street photography I was able to capture during my time in Chennai…

Great collection of work from Chennai Forrest. Love 4, 7 and 13, but they are all great! I like your use of flash in 32.. that is not a technique I often use but I do appreciate the results of flash used in daytime light. Might have to try it myself. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks, Tatum! I don’t use flash too often, I prefer natural light, but it is nice for a change sometimes. I like daytime use too, using it as fill light and how it freezes up-close action so well. It gives a surreal touch. I’m from the northwest too so it might help getting through not seeing the sunlight for weeks sometimes up there. Probably why flash seems to be popular up in Vancouver :)

Yup , took photos in the 80’s, I like most 1, but you scratched not even the surface of Chennai/Madras

Thanks! Yes, I’m sure you’re right, it’s a big city with a lot to discover. Luckily, I had some local street photographers there to show me their favorite places to shoot.
